Service Records

You will need to check the PRO for those records.  Try
http://catalogue.pro.gov.uk/ to see if they have the records.  You will have
to play with it to make it work but I found the piece details of the
documents I want to look at next time I go to Kew.  That was for a merchant
seaman and a pre-WWI soldier.

You can also use a researcher,
http://www.militaryresearchon.com/

I have not used but they have all charges up front and they were reasonably priced,
certainly cheaper than the train fare.
